Life Drawings by Victoria Broxton 13th-20June
Victoria is a local multi disciplinary artist, whose latest exhibition focuses on the traditional practice of life/figure drawing with a contemporary twist.
Originally from the South Lanarkshire, but gaining three degrees from Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art and Design in Dundee, she has been based in Aberdeenshire for the past 15 years.
Victoria’s work has its roots in Anatomy, movement practices including T’ai Chi and dance, as well as Eastern philosophy, and her work is intent on capturing the essence of these elements in relation to the body above and beyond a pure representation of the life model.
‘Having recently completed an MSc in Medical Art, where the focus was primarily on strict anatomical accuracy, I felt the need to loosen up in my drawing, to really let go and find the ‘soul’ of the figure in the quick gesture drawings (ranging from 30 seconds to 5 minutes) that are normally warm up exercises in a life drawing class, and to continue that spontaneity into the longer posed drawings rather than getting bogged down in meticulous detail.
It has been an incredibly freeing process and I’m looking forward to sharing the results of the past 18 months work in such a beautiful setting as the Hy pop up space as part of Hyve Architects in Stonehaven’.
The exhibition runs from 13th-20th June at Hy Stonehaven. 68-70 Allardice Street, AB39 2AA
