A90 Stonehaven northbound slip roads, A90 Glasslaw on-slip & A90 Glasslaw southbound

Works start Wednesday 10 July

Three sections of the A90 near Stonehaven are set to benefit from £400,000 worth of carriageway and slip road improvements with works scheduled to start next week.

The improvements will address any defects in the road surface at the Stonehaven northbound slips (Spurryhillock), Glasslaw southbound on-slip and Glasslaw southbound, creating a smoother and safer journey for motorists.

The project is programmed to take place in three phases, outlined below:

  • A90 Stonehaven northbound slip roads (Spurryhillock) – Wednesday 10 July (one night)

The project will take place on Wednesday 10 July for one night with improvements carried out between 7.30pm and 6.30am.  To ensure the safety of roadworkers as well as motorists, the northbound off and on-slips will be closed during working hours. A signed diversion route will be in place for road users to follow. There will also be a single lane closure on the A90 northbound with a 50mph speed restriction in place for safety.

  • A90 Glasslaw southbound on-slip – Thursday 11 July (one night)

Resurfacing will take place on the A90 Glasslaw southbound on-slip on Thursday 11 July between 7.30pm and 6.30am. For safety, the southbound on-slip will be closed during working hours. A signed diversion route will be in place to guide motorists to their destination. There will also be a single lane closure on the southbound carriageway with a 50mph speed limit in place. Access will be maintained for residents within the closure.

  • A90 Glasslaw southbound carriageway – Friday 12 July to Monday 15 July (24/7 weekend working)

The final phase will get underway from 7.30pm on Friday 12 July for a full weekend and will see teams resurface a section of the southbound carriageway between the Glasslaw on-slip and the Lumgair Junction. To ensure the safety of roadworkers and motorists, a contraflow system will be in place over the weekend, with single lane traffic in each direction travelling on the northbound carriageway. All traffic management will be removed by 6.30am Monday 15 July. Access for properties within the contraflow area will be maintained.

Andy Thompson, BEAR Scotland’s North East Representative said: “This £400,000 project for these three locations near Stonehaven will upgrade the carriageway surface and remove any defects in the road, helping to create a safer and smoother road surface for motorists.

“The traffic management is essential to ensure the safety of the workforce and road users during the projects, however we’ve taken steps to carry out the project overnight where possible with work at Glasslaw being carried out over one full weekend to minimise the impact on weekly commuting traffic.   Our teams will do all they can to complete the project as quickly and safely as they can.

“We thank motorists for their patience in advance while our teams work to carry out these essential works on these sections of the A90.  We encourage road users to plan their journeys in advance by checking the Traffic Scotland website for real time journey information and leaving some extra time to reach their destination.”

Real-time journey planning information can be obtained by visiting www.trafficscotland.org, twitter at @trafficscotland or via the new mobile site my.trafficscotland.org.

Materials removed from the existing carriageway will be recycled using SEPA approved methods.
