APPROXIMATELY one thousand stones are now on display at the promenade – the work of Stonehaven’s lockdown artists.
It took two sessions to set the multi-coloured contributions into concrete, using a sine-wave to take the eye along the strip: who’d have thought a maths teacher was involved?
This was a project funded by the Stonehaven Town Partnership and bringing together Aberdeenshire Council and volunteers of the Horizon Group, who set the stones in place. STP’s Jim Stephen was chief concrete mixer with Greig Walker providing an expert eye on levels and floating the mix.
There has been a non-stop flow of painted pebbles down to the promenade. Artists of all ages have delivered a stunning range of miniature paintings, designs and messages.

Phase two
Not all contributions have been used – and more are still arriving – so one final section will be laid out during the week beginning July 20. So if you would like to add your own momento of Corovid-19 in Stonehaven, start looking for your perfect pebble.
Please note – there have been problems with stones painted using water-based colours. Please use acrylic paints and lacquer to seal.
