Regretfully, the Ship Inn has had to temporarily close as a member of their serving staff has tested positive for Covid-19. The staff member in question came into work on Saturday but started experiencing loss of smell and taste that afternoon after their shift, one of the three classic Covid symptoms. The staff member immediately notified management and arranged a test which was carried out on Saturday evening with a positive result being returned on Sunday morning. Simon Cruckshank, the Ship Inn’s owner immediately made the responsible decision not to open on Sunday while awaiting advice from Track and Trace and the Public Health authorities.
The Ship announced the situation on their Facebook Page and also published the shift times of said staff member for members of the public to feel reassured about the possibility of transmission. The details of any customers that were there during the shift times were also sent to the Track and Trace teams on Sunday as per government guidance. This is the reason we give our details when we visit establishments and is the system in motion.
The staff member was on shift on Thurs 3rd Dec 3-8.45pm, Fri 4th Dec 10am-4pm and Sat 5th Dec 8am-2pm.
The Ship will remain closed until at least 18th Dec whilst the staff self-isolate and are put on furlough. Simon Cruickshank called the furlough a “God send” as he always puts the well-being of his staff first. He also said that should Aberdeenshire go into Tier 3 this week it will remain closed, probably until March as the cost of running on reduced opening hours is not sustainable.
The Ship has been following very strict measures to reduce risk, following all guidance and procedures to protect both staff and clientele. In this difficult moment, Simon Cruickshank, the Ship Inn’s owner has shown how dealing with a positive Covid-19 case in a staff member should be done. He has been timely, open, transparent and considerate in his announcements handling the situation with the utmost professionalism. You see the measure of the management in crisis. Hats off to the team at The Ship Inn.
Any further updates will be posted on their Facebook Page. Whilst closed the phones will not be manned so if you have any queries The Ship Inn kindly request that you email them on email@example.com .
