A FASCINATING history of Stonehaven’s Fireball ceremony has just been published.
Put together by Martin Sim, The History of the Stonehaven Fireball Ceremony features an edited collection of local newspaper reports from 1908 to 2002. After that date, the Fireball Association were in charge and Martin was was directly involved so it then becomes a personal record of how things happened.
Martin has spent several years collating the names of all those who have swung fireballs over the decades.
He said: ”I have seen most of the Fireball Ceremonies since I was five-years-old. I always liked the event but was terrified at the same time, when I was younger.”
You can relive the excitement of Stonehaven’s unique procession from the safety of your own armchair – the book is on sale at: Giulianotti’s, Stitch ‘n’ Print Stonehaven, The Tolbooth Museum and through the Fireball Association website https://stonehavenfireballs.co.uk/ – it costs £5.00.
All profits are going to the Fireball Association.
