VOTING opened on Monday to allow Stonehaven residents their chance to choose which sports and leisure projects they would like to see benefit from Aberdeenshire Council’s £1.8 million investment in the town.
The participatory budgeting process started last August with focus groups and wider opportunities online for locals to make suggestions. From over 100 proposals, a short list of seven were developed and costed.
Details of the seven projects are online
And at Tuesday’s meeting of Stonehaven and District Community Council, Dawn Black reminded her fellow members of the seven options on the table for the investment in the town’s sports and leisure amenities:
a covered outdoor sports area next to the leisure centre
a stadium upgrade at the Recreation Grounds
development of outside space at the Recreation Grounds
an extension and improvements to the leisure centre
PAMIS changing facilities and an improved entrance to the leisure centre
a new indoor tennis facility
improvements to the BMX park.
Ms Black said: ”As you can tell, none of the projects reach the £1.8million by themselves, so we should get two or three projects with the funds.”
She added: ”This was very much the start of a conversation. The other projects are now written up and can now look for other funding sources.”
