After a two-year break, due to COVID restrictions, Stonehaven Folk Festival will be back from 8-10 July 2022 with a strong Celtic line-up of internationally renowned talent.
Confirmed, so far, for this year’s line-up are – Scottish icons Shooglenifty, whose music combines traditional music with modern bass lines and dance grooves. Music that stirs the heart as well as making your body shoogle’. Anglo-Irish band Flook are another band to raise the pulse rate with their fast paced, flute based, renditions of traditional and self-penned music.
Hecla are a three-piece band of musicians from Kincraig, Colonsay, and just down the road in Kirriemuir. They sew together a tapestry of melodies and lyrics echoing the places which have shaped their musical characters. Also hailing from Orkney (though now based in Glasgow) is Kris Drever the hugely admired solo artist, collaborator, and member of folk superstars Lau. His voice and guitar have become part of the backbone of today’s contemporary roots and folk scene.
In keeping with Stonehaven Folk Festival’s tradition of promoting local talent we are pleased to present The Paddy Buchanan Band with their fresh interpretation traditional songs.
More acts will be confirmed in the coming weeks. For more details see the website www.stonehavenfolkfestival.co.uk
There will, of course, be the usual array of family friendly activities such as the Aqua-Ceilidh in the heated outdoor pool, Free concerts in the Marquee on the Square on Saturday and Sunday, a range of workshops where you can try your hand at playing and/or singing and impromptu sessions throughout the town.
There will also be the World Paper ‘n’ Comb Playing Championships. This year we will pick up the theme of the Eurovision Song Contest. So come prepared with one of your favourite winning = or losing – songs. It is rumoured that ‘Conchita may even make a special appearance!
Stonehaven Folk Festival run as a charitable event. Organised and run entirely by volunteers who not only love the music but get a great buzz out of how the community responds over the Festival weekend and the boost it gives to Stonehaven’s economy.
We are always on the lookout for more people to join our band of volunteers. If anyone is interested in volunteering, we have a range of experiences over the weekend of the Festival itself and in the setting up and organising of the Festival which happens throughout the year.
