The Memorial – A Poem

STONEHAVEN’S War Memorial will once again be the setting for the town’s tribute to fallen service men and women on Sunday.

The Armistice parade assembles at the Market Square at 10.15am and marches to St James’ Church. Following the service, the tribute continues at the War Memorial at approximately12.30pm with the wreath-laying ceremony.

The Bellman is indebted to Frances Crabb for the following:

While clearing out a relatives home recently, I came across the attached. You may well know of it, but I will send it as you may not. I would hate to think no-one knew of this beautiful tribute. Rather fitting in view of the fact it will be 100 years next May since the War Memorial was unveiled.

I understand Professor McKendrick built and lived at Maxieburn for some years in the early 1900s, being Provost of Stonehaven for a period.
