Stonehaven Golf Club Report w/e Sunday 8th January 2023

The start of a new year brings resolutions, longer days, better weather and, for golfers, the hope of fewer putts and lower scores. That was clearly the case for some of the seniors on Wednesday who, despite the soggy conditions, managed to card some decent scores over the 14 holes. Raymond Napier, after playing the last hole, must have thought he was in with a chance of the top prize only to be pipped to the post by Stuart Campbell with a whopping 34 points.

Playing only 12 holes and despite not having the incentive of a cash prize, some of the ladies’ scores were equally impressive on Thursday with Janet Owen head and shoulders clear of the pack with 29 points. However, the ladies’ normal Tuesday playing slots seem to be plagued by the bad weather and none were brave enough to venture out to battle against the elements.

The Gents Winter League was back on track at the weekend and the competition was very close at the top of the Singles with all three players carding 38 points. The pairing of Jason Barbour and Kevin Riddell built on the previous week’s win with another good round to come top in the Gross Doubles while the experienced pairing of Harry Roulston and Neil Irvine took the honours in the Nett Doubles.

The course has endured severe weather during the past month with heavy snow followed by heavy rain. At times course closure is unavoidable but, if possible, the course remains open. Members are asked to use common sense and avoid muddy areas especially with trollies.
