Weather warnings

The Met Office yellow warning for very strong winds has now ended.

A yellow warning for snow and ice is now in place, running from 11pm tonight (Fri) until 9am tomorrow (Sat) and mainly affecting western areas of Aberdeenshire. This could lead to some further travel disruption across parts of Scotland, mostly on high level routes.

Keep track of the latest information at:

Roads services

A number of roads remain closed due to fallen trees and we are in the process of removing these. We’ve got a Google Map showing roads closed due to fallen trees:

If there is a tree down and it is an emergency, call 101 and police will contact the council.

Power outages

SSEN is dealing with a number of power cuts across Scotland. Details of power outages can be found via the SSEN Power Track website at:

Emergency power outages can be reported via the website or by calling 105.

Bus services

Ready2Go bus services have commenced at 11am, however Central Buchan A2B services are cancelled today.

Waste services

High winds have impacted our household waste collections:

  • Mintlaw: All routes have been cancelled on safety grounds – we will return on Monday to pick up missed collections
  • Inverurie: All routes are currently stood down and we will reassess later in the morning
  • Ellon: No routes scheduled today
  • Banchory, Stonehaven and Macduff: Routes are out but some areas not accessible due to fallen trees. We are assessing whether it is safe to continue collections

The decision has also been made to close the following Household Recycling Centres:

Inverurie, Ellon, Stonehaven, Portlethen, Turriff, Macduff, Peterhead, Fraserburgh, Huntly, Alford, Banchory

Bookings that have been made prior to this time have been cancelled and customers notified via the emails used to make their bookings. We apologise for any inconvenience caused.

A large number of schools have been affected by the strong winds. School closure information can be found at:

Health and Social Care

Health and Social Care services continue to be provided but there have been some local impacts.

Please check with your GP practice if you have an appointment scheduled for today in case the practice has had to close.
