AFTER their successful bid in last year’s participatory budgeting process, Stonehaven Tennis Club have applied for planning permission for an indoor tennis arena.
The Club have submitted plans for a 9m high air supported structure which will sit on the site of two tennis courts at the Recreation Grounds.
The development of an indoor tennis facility was one of the successful options in last year’s participatory budgeting exercise, achieving an allocation of £250,000 towards a project which at the time was costed at £1.2 million.
At the time of the consultation the indicative illustrations showed the indoor arena on the current putting greens – The Bellman understands this location was not allowed to proceed due to flooding concerns.
The Recreation Grounds also won £150,000 to develop the putting green area – a recently approved planning application showed a new look putting green contoured in a manner inspired by the Himalayas putting green at St Andrews, together with a boules arena and a fenced, all-weather surface, multi use games area.
Full details of the Tennis Club’s proposals are available online, along with a facility to comment.
