Stonehaven Golf Club Report w/e Sunday 26th March 2023
As if the series of course closures due to snow, ice and flooding during the first two weeks of March was not bad enough, the course succumbed to heavy fog rolling in off the North Sea on Saturday 19th resulting in the postponement of the Winter League Finals. After a long campaign, punctuated by several bouts of bad weather, the finals were played last weekend with Doug Barnard winning the Gents’ Singles, Jason Barbour and Kevin Riddell were convincing winners of the Scratch Doubles and Neil MacArthur and Graeme McFarlane won the Nett Doubles competition. Well done to all!
The seniors wrapped up their winter season with a shotgun Spring Stableford competition in sunshine and blue skies which belied the exceptionally testing conditions with the wind playing havoc with all and sundry. Seemingly the seniors were relieved to finish and assemble for their annual Spring Lunch in the Clubhouse.
The ladies at Stonehaven Golf Club are a testament to the mental and physical health benefits of playing golf. They are a friendly bunch, on and off the course, and all agree that, as well as being a social event, golf is good for mental well-being and is great physical exercise. Anyone wanting to join is encouraged to contact the club to take advantage of the membership offers for new members.
