The members of Stonehaven Rotary Club are delighted that Sarah Smart, our candidate in this year’s Rotary Young Chef competition , came 2nd in the District competition which entitled her to compete in the Scottish Area final of the 2023 Young Chef competition. She won the Scottish title and is therefore through to the UK final in Alcester on Saturday 29th April. She came along to the weekly meeting of Stonehaven Rotary Club to thank club members for supporting her. (She didn’t cook lunch for the members !!) She brought along her trophies and was presented with her Certificate of Achievement by President John Robson.
Alcester is not the closest of venues or easiest to reach for someone living in the North East of Scotland. Sarah’s participation in the final involves travel to Alcester by car for Sarah and her mum as the contestants have to take almost all the equipment they need with them and 2 overnight stays on the Friday and Saturday evenings. Sarah’s Home Economics teacher at Mackie Academy, Kirsty Wilson, who has been mentoring he, is also travelling to Alcester to support her. Stonehaven Rotary Club, District 1010 Rotary and the school are covering the costs of Sarah’s participation in the final.
To help raise funds for this and for Stonehaven Rotary’s other Youth and Community projects, the Club is running a Quiz night on Friday 28th April in the Station Hotel. Tickets cost £10 a person which includes taking part in the quiz and a plate of stovies (as food for the brain!) .They are available from Guilianotti, the Rose Bowl and Simpson Playhouse. Come and support this fundraiser.
We are all keeping our fingers crossed for Sarah.
