Local Knowledge Pays Off

By Fiona Currie

At last the weather has improved and, last week, the full fixture list was completed without interruption

Ever inventive, the Ladies’ Section has introduced a new match play competition, which started on Tuesday, and will be contested over the course of the season. A number of ladies have joined the Aberdeenshire Ladies County Golf Association this season and the club was able to enter two teams to compete for the Watt Duffus Trophy held on Monday at Deeside Golf Club. With 23 teams taking part the Stonehaven 1 team finished in a commendable 5th place at their first attempt in this competition.

Stonehaven’s first Open competition of the year, the Mixed Open Texas Scramble, replaced the normal gents’ fixture on Saturday. It attracted a large field and, with the sun shining, conditions were ideal to produce some low scores. The top five teams were all within one shot of winning. However, local knowledge must have played its part as Stonehaven members took home all the prizes in the top 3 teams.
