STONEHAVEN and District Community Council have established a food crisis fund to provide support to needy households.
The decision to launch the fund follows the recent announcement that the Haven Community Larder will close at the end of this month. It was taken at a meeting this week hosted by SDCC and attended by Cllr Dawn Black along with representatives from the Haven Larder, the STP and the Lions Club.
The fund will purchase vouchers for local shops which would be offered to community groups including Home-Start Kincardine, Pillar Kincardine, and Kincardine and Mearns Citizens Advice Bureau – to pass on to their clients as required.
It is hoped the fundraising venture will be supported by many of the town’s service organisations, local clubs, businesses, and the wider community.
Mr Lawman told The Bellman the first priority at the moment was to continue to support the Haven Community Larder until it closes as demand is exceeding supply with people trying to cover both their immediate needs and their needs going forward.
Then, he said, the town’s foodbanks would likely see an increased demand, so donations to both the Far & Wide and The Catalyst Church would be very welcome.
