The Shed on the Beach – Open Morning

This Saturday, 8 July 2023, Stonehaven & District Men’s Shed will open it’s doors to the public between 0900 and 1200. The aim of the “open morning” is to encourage other men, who, because of their personal circumstances, find themselves unable to visit the Shed during the “normal” opening hours. The aim of the open session is to try and gauge whether or not the Shed would benefit from an extension of opening hours by, for example, one evening per week and/or one/two Saturday morning per month. The current opening structure is good for those men who are semi/retired but may not be suitable for men who have commitments during the current opening hours. The Shed is open to all men over the age of 18 and is not just for retirees – though the aims remain the same – to combat loneliness and/or mental health concerns as well as giving men a place to meet and exchange ideas, carry out personal or community projects, and generally get involved in the mix.

We like to say, “you don’t have to work if you visit the shed” – it’s true, you don’t have to. If you wish to just sit and have a cuppie, a chat, do the crossword etc then that’s OK too. There are opportunities either to learn newer skills (IT, CNC, 3D printing etc) or build on knowledge of the artisan type skills such as joinery, model making, electrical and mechanical engineering etc.

Men can work on their own mini projects or get involved in community type projects or work with the teams in refurbishing or manufacturing goods for sale to bolster the Shed’s funds. There are also opportunities, throughout the year, to get involved in various local events ie Folk Festival, Beer Happening, Feein’ Market, Farmers & Produce Market etc.

So come along and find out a bit more.

The Shed will also be open to the general public during this period so please come along.

Please note that the Shed will be opening a “family friendly” session of the Stonehaven Folk Festival from 1300 – 1700 (approx) in support of Aberdeen South Drugs & Alcohol Action Group hosted by Sandy Mather. So come along later for a friendly “sesh” where soft drinks, tea, coffee and nibbles will be available.
