Scrambling For Impressive Scores

By Fiona Currie

There was an exciting final round to the Senior Gents Championship last Friday.

After the first two rounds Neil Irvine was ahead of Alan Cruickshank and Gary Brown by 3 strokes but after the final round Alan, who played consistently all week, managed to claw back the three strokes with another solid round of 70. With Neil and Alan tied on 212 they will have to battle it out for the top spot in a play-off over 18 holes.

A shotgun start for the Sponsors Day on Sunday saw 11 teams of four players compete against each other in a Texas Scramble. Despite windy conditions the scores were impressive with the winning team, Dalriada Lodges, recording a nett 51.4.

Pictured left to right with the trophy are George Burr, George Meek, Robert McAlpine, Graham McGregor and young George Burr (caddie). Closely behind was the Groundwater Team 2 on 51.9 and the team from Travis Perkins on 53.6 was in 3rd place. The longest drive on 8th was Stuart Robertson (GTL Search) and nearest the pin on 18th was Russell Geddes (Bridgeview).
