Stonehaven Golf Club Report w/e Monday 4th September 2023

The Ladies’ Medal Final was played on Sunday on a very windy but probably the warmest day since June. No fewer than 15 ladies qualified for the Medal Final each having won at least one Medal competition throughout the season. The winner of the Silver Medal was Rose Riddell with a nett 68 and Wilma Eccles won the Bronze Medal with a nett 69 (pictured left to right).

The Gents played the final Innes Medal of 2023 on Saturday. Leading nett scores (and ties) in each division qualify for the Innes Medal Final and Top 2 (and tied) gross scores qualify for the Captain’s Cup. The Charlie Nicol Order of Merit Trophy would also be concluded following the last Innes Medal.

Lee Fenton led a 5 man tie on nett 64 in division 1. John Starrs and Steve Crawford won their respective divisions both with nett 62 and all 7 gents qualified for the final this weekend. The Captain’s Cup qualifiers were Scott Cameron & Douglas Barnard with other lower scoring competitors already having qualified in previous months. The Charlie Nicol Trophy Winner for a 5th straight year was Craig Irvine.

Congratulations to Stonehaven Seniors who have retained the Alliance trophy for the third time in a row. The Senior Alliance is an inter-club, Stableford competition played throughout the season at each of the four host clubs, with team points being awarded to the top ten individual scores. After three rounds, Stonehaven held a slender lead, 4 points ahead of Brechin. The final round was held at Stonehaven, on a glorious, but somewhat windy day. The testing conditions clearly favoured the home team, with SGC scoring points in eight of the first ten places, 49 points on the day. A special mention to Graham King (SGC), overall winner, with 43 points and an impressive 75 – 16 = 59. Pictured are Graeme Wilson (Senior Convenor) & Steve McGhie (left to right).

The annual Junior Match Play Events kicked off recently and particular focus was on the 2nd green on Monday evening. Junior Club Champion Jamie Sutherland was playing in the 4BBB event with Josh Killoh up against Molly Skidmore & James Boggon. Not content with a birdie on the 1st hole, Jamie proceeded to hole his very next tee shot on the 2nd hole, witnessed by both Kathleen & Ivan Groundwater from the 18th tee. What a moment for them all witnessing this momentous occasion. However, Molly & James didn’t give up and eventually won the match 2 up. Jamie, Josh, Molly & James are pictured (left to right).
