MUSIC FOR AN AUTUMN EVENING

By Jennifer Macdonald / September 14, 2023

On Friday 22nd September Richard Michael is making a return visit to Stonehaven, this time along with his daughter, Joanna Duncan, to entertain us in a concert. Richard will be playing piano and his daughter Joanna will be playing violin.

Joanna is a violin and piano teacher who enjoys working with students of all ages, especially those interested in learning to improvise, even with just a couple of notes! She is currently involved in several educational and music-for-wellbeing projects in and around Edinburgh where she lives with her husband and teenage sons, and enjoys baking, gardening and cycling around the old railway network beneath the city’s streets. Leader of the New Edinburgh Orchestra since 1997, Joanna is also the musician at Dalmeny Parish Church near South Queensferry. She runs Fife Youth Jazz Orchestra’s ‘Teenies’, a weekly online jazz tutorial for primary school age children.

The music will include songs from Burt Bacharach, Paul McCartney, George Gershwin and Dave Brubeck. As Richard was born and brought up in Stonehaven, he will include a tribute to Robbie Shepherd who sang in his late father’s concert party before coming to national prominence as a master of all things Doric.

Make sure you get the date in your diary—this will be an evening not to be missed!
