ABERDEENSHIRE Council, is consulting the public on the proposed community asset transfer, CAT, of the Tolbooth building at the Old Pier.
The volunteers who run the museum are seeking the transfer of ownership of the building and courtyard.
If successful, they will retain the upper floor as a restaurant and the ground floor as a museum and in due course expand the museum into a community hub.
In 2016, the Stonehaven Tolbooth Association obtained Planning Permission for an extension to the Tolbooth building to create a larger exhibition area and cafe. Funding is required for this extension – and for essential maintenance work.
The extension project has stalled however as the current short-term lease agreement with the local authority prohibits the volunteers from seeking grants as funders demand either a long-term lease or ownership of the building.

If you would like to make comment on the CAT request, then there is a facility to do so by completing a survey online.
