The latest “Mearns Voices” podcast from local writing group “Mearns Writers” is now available online, just in time for Hallowe’en.

The new episode features a Doric ghost story written and performed by Alistair Lawrie. “The Wind” is a sinister tale of a young man returning to an East coast fishing town during an ungodly storm. Not unlike Stoney during Storm Babet, perhaps?

As well as spook the listener, Alistair was keen to write the entire piece in Doric. He explains that whilst Doric may often appear in written dialogue, it is rarely used to fully narrate a story.

Crum Hall

Accompanying the tale is a specially composed score by Crum Hall.

Crum Hall is a multi-instrumentalist and producer. He started out as a teenager playing drums for local bands in and around the Stonehaven area before moving to London where he recorded with ska punk band Bender and alt country band Lincoln. He now lives in Dunbar where he continues to record as well as produce work for film and television.

The entire podcast was put together by Gregor McMurtrie of the Friends Eclectic Collective (AKA Radio FECK) and is now available on all the major podcast platforms including Spotify, Audible and Apple – just search for “Mearns Voices”.
