MEASURES to improve safety on the White Bridge are among the planning applications validated this week.
The local authority is seeking listed building consent to install a central handrail on the south approach steps to the bridge. The proposed handrail would not be fixed to the original, listed granite steps but to the new sandstone steps.
Meanwhile anti slip strips on the edge of the steps are proposed to help reduce the slippiness of the original granite steps when they are wet, and to provide a colour contrast to help improve visibility of the steps for pedestrians.
