The Motorsport News British Historic Road Rally Championship starts in Cheshire this weekend, with a former Stonehaven man flying the flag for Scotland.

George Topp, navigated by his wife Rosalind, starts car 59 on The Tour of Cheshire in their 1966 Volvo Amazon 132S.

Born and educated in Stonehaven, George was a former Mearns Leader journalist, before moving south to edit a paper in Lanarkshire. Now retired he and his wife live in SW France.

The couple have just returned from competing in the world’s oldest rally, the Monte Carlo Historique Rallye, joining those electing to start from Glasgow, the 100th anniversary of that city as one of the starting points.

Apart from silver finishers medals they returned with several awards to add to trophies won during their 2023 season.

The couple are back in the UK in April, joining crews from around the world on the tough 10-day international London to Lisbon Rally.
