A Stonehaven business woman has been announced as a winner in the 2024 Federation of Small Businesses (FSB) Celebrating Small Business awards.

Donna Maver, founder and owner of DM Training and zero waste and refill store, Replenish, has won the Sustainability Award category, in the FSB Scottish Region Awards.

The sustainability award recognises the actions a business is taking to operate in the low carbon economy plus their commitment to grow and survive long term while delivering social benefit.

With more than 25 years’ experience of the hospitality industry and an understanding of exceeding customer expectations through training excellence, Donna Maver established DM Training in 2005.

DM Training provides training to organisations of various sizes across Scotland. DM Training was Donna’s only focus until she was forced to diversify during the 2020 pandemic.

Her passion for north-east produce, supporting the local economy, and providing smarter ways to shop to reduce environmental impact inspired Donna to open a zero waste store. In November 2020, Donna opened Replenish- a refill store, selling seasonal fruit & veg, eco products and providing shopping choices to reduce waste, food miles, and save customers money.

Since opening, Replenish has gone from strength to strength and helped Donna keep her training business afloat due to the impact of the pandemic.

Focus on Sustainability

Owner Donna Maver comments: “I am absolutely delighted to be recognised in the FSB Scottish Region Awards.

“The past three years have been a real rollercoaster and I am so pleased that my decision to focus on sustainability has been a success.  Despite the difficulties with the pandemic, from a DM Training perspective, I have continued with some of the working practices deployed at the height of restrictions as they are better for the environment such as, continuing with online training options to reduce the need for excessive travel.

“I am especially proud of what the Team at Replenish have achieved. They have all worked hard to ensure the shop has been a success at a time when the high street is facing uncertainty and many hurdles and obstacles outwith our control .

“I would like to say a huge thanks to our suppliers and customers too. They have taken us to their hearts and are fully onboard with what we want to achieve – providing options to make better shopping choices which limit the impact on the environment. For example, since opening, our customers’ commitment to buying plastic wrap free fruit and veg has prevented around 175,000 plastic bags going to landfill which is incredible!

“We have some exciting plans for 2024 and can’t wait to share what’s next!”

Donna will join the other Scottish FSB award winners at a reception at Bute House, the official residence of the First Minister, in Edinburgh on 19 March and will then head to the UK FSB award finals on 9 May in Blackpool.

Open seven days a week, Replenish can be found at 23 Allardice Street, Stonehaven, Aberdeenshire an on Facebook  and Instagram or contact by email:
