If you hear the charming chug a chug of a Dotto road train rolling through Stonehaven once more, don’t worry—you haven’t accidentally wandered onto a film set or into a childhood storybook. The beloved Stonehaven Express is making a grand return and then some!
For those who haven’t yet had the pleasure, The Stonehaven Express aka “The Stoney Express” is a delightful road train manufactured in Italy by Dotto Trains, bringing a touch of continental charm to our Scottish coastal town. And for those who already know and love it, the news of its relaunch is enough to make you want to grab your kids and jump aboard.
A Community Favourite Returns
The town’s relationship with The Stoney Express is nothing short of a love affair. Whether it’s ferrying excited children, nostalgic locals, or visitors from all parts eager to take in the breathtaking Stonehaven seaside and coastal views, the train has carved out a special place in the town’s heart. What’s New This Time Around?

We have new sponsorship from The Market Bar and Economove whose support has been key in the relaunch, as well as our longer standing sponsors whose adverts you will see on the train. Without their support this would not have been possible so grateful thanks to them all. Also many thanks to all of the people who have given up their spare time to get the train rolling again and to KMS, Groundwater, MGS Transport and Caledonian Railways.
The Launch date is planned to be Monday the 5th of May and over the next couple of weeks full details and plans for the relaunch day will be published in The Bellman, Local Press and Radio and through Social Media. This will also cover information such as times and activities on the day, routes, ticket prices, sponsors, train crews etc. So, when the big day is officially released come along and show your support and share the enthusiasm as our old friend gets back into business!
