Monday, 5th May saw the triumphant return of The Stonehaven Express – and what a launch it was! The sun was shining (mostly), the bunting was flapping, and the people of Stonehaven turned out in force to celebrate the relaunch of our much-loved “wee train”.
It was a day bursting with community spirit, heartfelt thanks, and a few happy tears (some from emotion, some from laughter – and maybe just a wee bit of wind!). The relaunch wasn’t just about getting things back on track – it was about recognising the incredible network of people, sponsors, community groups, and loyal locals who made it all possible. If we had a ticket for every bit of support we’ve had, we’d be handing out season passes for the next hundred years.
Kicking things off with the kind of stirring splendour that gives you goosebumps and makes you stand that wee bit taller, the Pipers from Dunnottar Pipes and Drums provided the soundtrack to the day. Quite simply splendid – as always – they brought the atmosphere, the energy, and more than a few misty eyes with their powerful performance. We honestly don’t know how they manage to sound that good and look that sharp both on and off the train.
From the moment the ribbon was cut by Donna (with all the ceremony and none of the health and safety panic), the buzz was electric. We saw old friends reconnect, new fans hop aboard, and had lots of laughter all around – surely a sign of a truly successful event.
A huge, heartfelt thank you goes out to our amazing sponsors, without whose generosity we would never of achieved this dream. To the community groups who supported us we see you, we thank you, and we salute you. And of course, to the people of Stonehaven – you wonderful lot – who turned up with big smiles and even bigger hearts, thank you for believing in what The Stoney Express could be.
