Big Crowds, Big Smiles, and a Brilliant Day for Stonehaven’s Favourite Train!

We understand that something reasonably major happened in Aberdeen the day before we launched but Sunday, the 25th of May saw something even bigger happen in Stonehaven!!!

The Stoney Express made its official return to passenger service, carrying fare-paying folk for the first time in six years. And what a reception we got!

Over the course of six runs, we carried a fantastic total of 128 passengers – and on two of those runs, we were completely full with 32 passengers aboard. The atmosphere was brilliant, the sun made a welcome appearance, and the excitement was clear to see from passengers young and old.

Everyone seemed to have a great time – from curious kids enjoying their first ride to long-time locals delighted to see the train back in action. As for the Stoney Crew, we had an absolute blast looking after our passengers and helping create some great memories.

Now, a quick bit of practical info…

The Stoney Express will now run every Saturday and Sunday, with hourly departures at:

10:00, 11:00, 12:00, 14:00, 15:00 and 16:00
(We take a short lunch break from 13:00 to 14:00)

Fares are as follows:

  • Adults: £7.00
  • Juniors (three to 15 years): £4.00
  • Under 3s: Free

We’re operating on a Hop On / Hop Off basis, and seats aren’t bookable – just turn up and enjoy the ride. That means you can hop on at the Market Square, head to Dunnottar Castle for a bit of sightseeing, then catch a later train back and maybe even stop off for a swim at Stonehaven’s famous Open Air Pool.

Also the Open Air Pool will be holding their opening ceremony this coming Saturday and TSE will be supporting this by taking Dunnottar Pipes And Drums from the Market Square at 10:000 to the Pool for the ceremony at 11:00. So why don’t you join us at The Square, listen to one of the best developing Pipe Bands in Scotland and then walk along behind TSE to take part in supporting the opening of the Pool.
