Stuart’s Story: A Fight For More Time
In January, Stuart and his family were dealt a devastating blow. He was diagnosed with Stage 4 Linitis Plastica, a rare and aggressive form of stomach cancer. The NHS offered a limited treatment plan—twelve rounds of palliative chemotherapy, aimed not at curing but at managing symptoms. Now, as that treatment comes to an end, the reality is hard to face. Once it finishes, there are no further options available through the NHS.
But Stuart’s family isn’t ready to give up.
After researching alternative treatments, they found a glimmer of hope in Germany. Professor Thomas J. Vogl, a respected cancer specialist in Frankfurt, believes he may be able to help. He offers a treatment called TACE (Transcatheter Arterial Chemoembolization), which delivers chemotherapy straight into the tumour’s blood supply, then blocks that supply to slow or stop its growth.
While this treatment is only approved for liver cancer in the UK, it’s more widely used abroad for other types, including stomach cancer. Although no one can promise results, Professor Vogl is optimistic he can help control Stuart’s cancer and extend his life beyond the grim outlook they’ve been given so far.
Stuart’s final NHS chemotherapy session is set for July 14th, and if all goes well, he could begin treatment in Germany within a few weeks after that.
He may also benefit from high-dose vitamin C treatment in the UK. At high levels, vitamin C acts differently in the body, helping to damage cancer cells and support the effectiveness of other treatments.
But these options come at a significant cost—far beyond what Stuart and his wife Aileen can afford alone.
Aileen says, “We’ve gone back and forth about asking for help, but the truth is—we can’t do this on our own. Stuart means everything to me. I need to know we’ve done all we can to give him more time with me and our four children.”
A GoFundMe page – Fundraiser by Aileen Minty : Help Stuart Minty get Treatment in Germany has already raised an amazing £61,303 out of a £120,000 target, thanks to 681 generous donors. But they’re not there yet, and time is short so it is now time for the whole community to step in.
Stuart is more than a patient. He’s a husband, a dad to four kids, and a big part of his community. His family refuses to accept there’s nothing more they can do. They’re doing everything possible—and asking for help so they won’t be left wondering, “What if we’d tried harder?”
Every donation, every share, every bit of support helps. All the money raised goes directly toward Stuart’s treatment.
If you’d like to help, you can donate or share the GoFundMe page. Or, if you’re local, come along to a Fundraising Car Wash hosted by MH Detailing on 12th & 13th July at Redcloak Steading, on the Slug Road. A £10 donation per car (or more if you wish) goes directly toward helping Stuart access life-extending treatment.
This isn’t about washing cars. It’s about a community standing together for someone they care about. Every kind gesture, every pound, and every show of support makes a real difference.
From Stuart’s family: thank you.
