But n’ Ben Books Opening

Quirky antique styled interior of bookshop with gramaphone on centre table

I’m Jane, I got my first job in The Shetland Times Bookshop when I was just 13 and now I’ve opened my own bookshop here in this lovely town 30 years later! My manager, Edna Burke, who gave me my first job all those years ago was unable to travel down for the opening but has sent me encouragement and support.

I haven’t always worked in bookselling, I studied art at college and worked in marketing & corporate design for a while as well as in other retail outlets and admin. Overall I spent about 12 years working in various bookshops in Scotland.

I have lived in Stonehaven for 12 years with my 2 children. Stonehaven is a lovely picturesque town in the north east of Scotland and has a lovely community spirit.

You will probably come to know that my go-to genre is gothic horror. My all time favourite book is Dracula with The woman in Black by Susan Hill being a close 2nd. I also enjoy reading about inspirational lives. As well as reading I enjoy art, music, films, cooking and punk rock 🤘

My aim was to create a small, quirky independent bookshop. Any book lover will agree that it’s all about the experience when browsing books, and I aim to create a relaxed & welcoming space that provides just that.

As well as books, the shop will provide an intimate event space for musicians and writers, bringing open hearts & minds together.

Enjoy 🙂
