BATTLE lines may be drawn at this week’s meeting of Stonehaven and District Community Council – with Tesco’s proposals for a supermarket up for discussion amid fears the plans are recommended for refusal by planners.
Ashfield Commercial Developments are seeking full planning permission for the erection of a retail store, electric vehicle charging hub and Class 3 cafe/restaurant with associated car parking, servicing, landscaping and access at New Mains of Ury – Tesco have agreed to operate the store.
SDCC discussed the plans at their meeting last July and have fully supported them. In their representation they also cite findings from the Local Place Plan consultation showing support for a supermarket development.
The Bellman understands it is expected the proposals will come before the Kincardine and Mearns Area Committee for determination next month, with an officers’ recommendation for refusal.

Meanwhile SDCC will hear a report from Mackie Academy’s Business and Community Support Officer, Megan Douglas, and an update on the town’s school rolls and the proposed upgrade to Dunnottar and Carronhill Schools.
The full agenda for the meeting is below. The meeting is held in the court room of the Sheriff Court Building at 7pm and is open to the public – or you can join using the Zoom link at the bottom.
