A Grumpy Take on This Week’s Community Hospital Consultation

Dear Bellman

I walked in bold as brass before reading any of your articles, and as is my wont to be met by a senior person of the female gender and with a sweep of the hands said what is this all about.

After some comments by myself was asked if I was from the The Bellman, this was denied, altho’ with hindsight I might have had more fun. I did say to the woman that the x-Ray machine was not there anymore.    My reason for this is at a not so recent visit the radiographer told me it was past its working life. My “host” was very emphatic that it was still there and she had seen it there yesterday.

The presentation was very poor consisting of a bunch of A3 prints from a PowerPoint presentation. A onetime fellow engineering apprentice (I am 78) preceded round the billboards, met me at the beginning of the show and said this does not tell us anything, and I agree.

It is my opinion that grown-ups have made up their mind, and these consultations are a box ticking exercise to give the illusion of community involvement and democracy.  Given the dire straits of the NHS and Grampian Health Board finances, to save money they will close some and sell the land. It won’t. That will only result in poorer health and greater demand somewhere else.
