NEW windows installed at Stonehaven’s youth club building on the High Street are the first sign of the refurbishment project underway – but help and donations are very much needed
While providing the town’s youth with a dedicated club space, the former Episcapalian School will also become the headquarters of Kincardine and Mearns Youth Clubs, KMYC.
Bringing the structure back up to standard was never going to be easy or cheap. An award of £130K from Place Based Investment Fund (Scot Government/Aberdeenshire Council) has set the work off to a great start.
Cllr Dawn Black, chair of KMYC, said all work is being undertaken by local businesses. Stonehaven Joinery Services replaced the rotten windows and building repairs are being carried out by Bridgefield Services Ltd.
Progress so far includes new lime render onto the courtyard wall; gable ends picked out and repointed; roof works to slates; and new coping stones etc using traditional materials. The flat roof to the rear is also set to be replaced.
But the money is now rapidly running out just making the building wind and water tight. So a Crowdfunder page has been created. Every donation will help support:
- toilet upgrades
- damp and black mold removal and eradication
- rotten joist replacement
- plaster replacements
- flooring replacements
- skylight replacements
