A VAST transformer destined for the existing Fetteresso substation will make its way from Aberdeen harbour to the Forest site tomorrow.
Weighing in at 258 tonnes, the unit is considerably heavier than any previous transformers delivered to Fetteresso and it may even be the heaviest item ever offloaded at Aberdeen harbour.
A road closure is in place to allow SSEN’s abnormal load movement. Emergency, pedestrian and vehicular access to affected properties will be maintained whenever possible.

An SSEN spokesperson told The Bellman the unit was required for its Fetteresso 400kV upgrade project. This is an upgrade of the existing 2016 substation from 275kV to operate at 400kV – and is not related to the proposed new Hurlie substation.
According to SSEN’s website the project has not yet reached the stage of making a planning application for the upgrade works.
