The golf club has been no exception to the recent spell of severe and relentlessly unsettled weather. Since Christmas the course has been fully playable for just four days and, as a result, closed completely for four weeks and six days — an unprecedented stretch in the club’s history, with no comparable period on record since its founding in 1888.
Despite the calamitous start to the year, there is now a clear air of optimism as the club moves into 2026. Things have started to calm down weatherwise and there are early signs of recovery across the course and the work done behind the scenes all point to a far more positive period ahead.
The greens staff are already seeing improvement and, if conditions continue to hold, the course should reopen in the next few days. The competition calendar is still scheduled to begin in April, with the full programme to be published shortly — and this will be covered by The Bellman.
Despite the relentless weather conditions, the clubhouse has remained fully operational throughout, providing a welcome sense of normality. The View restaurant, which is open to the public, is launching its 2026 promotions programme with a simple, excellent‑value offer: “Two for the price of one” on main dishes from Friday 20th to Friday 27th February. To take advantage, please contact The View 01569 762124.
At the recent AGM, it was also confirmed that Social Membership will remain at £10 for the year. It’s an ideal way to enjoy the warmth and charm of one of Scotland’s most scenic clubhouses without taking out a golf membership. For just £10, Patron Members have full access to the clubhouse and bar facilities and can sign in up to three guests. With stunning coastal views, Stonehaven’s last full‑size snooker table and a friendly, welcoming atmosphere, it’s a brilliant gateway into the club’s vibrant community.
The months ahead promise renewed energy across the course and clubhouse, and we look forward to sharing it with members, guests and the wider community. Here’s to a fantastic season ahead and a warm welcome to one and all.
