The Stoney Express Gets a Glam Makeover Ahead of Her Big Return

Two weeks ago, The Bellman reported that Stonehaven’s beloved Wee Train was getting steamed up and stirring from its winter hibernation. Well, the launch date is getting closer — and there are all sorts of strange rumblings, clanks, squeaks, and suspiciously glamorous aromas drifting out of Wee Train HQ.

Locals have been whispering that something big is happening. And they’re not wrong.

A Full Shampoo & Set by Gary’s Gleamers

The Stoney Express is currently in the fabulously capable hands of Gary’s Gleamers, who’ve taken on the challenge of giving her a full shampoo, set, primp, polish, buff, and general zhuzh ahead of her grand return. She’s gleaming under the spring sunshine, and rumour has it she’s loving the attention. One onlooker claimed the train “looked smug” after her conditioning treatment — though this remains unconfirmed and she’s refusing interviews.

“She’s got more bounce than a freshly blow-dried perm,” said Gary, wielding a microfibre cloth with flair. “Frankly, I think she knows she’s fabulous.”

She’ll be chuffing back soon — glossy, glamorous, and ready for her close-up.

Getting Ready for Her Public

Once the pampering is complete, the Stoney Express will be ready to roll out for another season of tours, smiles, and delighted waves from bairns and grown‑ups alike.

A spokesperson for the team behind the train said: “She’s nearly ready. She’s had her winter rest, her spring makeover, and now she’s just waiting for her big reveal. She’ll be looking bonnie.”

Back on the Route, Back in Our Hearts

After her luxurious makeover, the Stoney Express will once again be running her familiar route — from Market Square to the Open Air Pool and Queen Elizabeth Caravan Park, back through the town, up towards Dunnottar Castle for that iconic stop, then down the hill to Stonehaven Harbour, before returning to Market Square to do it all again.

It’s a loop packed with scenic views, local history and family‑friendly fun — the kind of wholesome entertainment that never goes out of style.

Whether you’re a lifelong local, a returning visitor, or someone discovering Stonehaven for the first time, the Stoney Express is ready to welcome you aboard.

The Wee Train is back — and all feels right in Stoney once more.
