108 players participated in the Cowie Cup on Saturday, sunshine blessing them for
the bulk of the day. The temperature was up and down but it remained dry, the
weather having no business being blamed by poor performers (I’ve no excuse
for example for my pathetic 62nd place finish, my golf utterly lamentable).
An added incentive was for players to finish in the top 32 since this qualified them for
the JM Low Knockout Competition. Hats off then not just to the competition winner
(Steve Birss) but also the 31 players who lay beneath him, if that’s not too bizarre an
image.
We’re blessed to play our golf at Stonehaven Golf Club because when you do suffer
days like I did, playing like a complete baboon, at least you’ve breathtaking views to
enjoy as you saunter along the fairways. Two dozen American tourists wrapped
themselves up in multi-layers to share the course with us on Saturday, having the
misfortune though of playing in much colder afternoon conditions. I’m not sure they knew
what had hit them, they don’t make courses like ours in the USA so watching them
trudge up and down our slopes dressed like Eskimos was a sight indeed.
It’s always a pleasure receiving visitors and we thank them for experiencing
Stonehaven Golf Club as part of their tour of Scotland.
