THE latest in a string of offshore wind farm developments will be presented to Stonehaven residents in a consultation event next week.

The 72 turbines of the Aspen Offshore Wind Farm will sit 84km off Peterhead and are expected to generate 1GW of energy from 2030. The electricity generated will be directed to offshore oil and gas facilites along with providing clean energy onshore.

Submarine export cables from the tubine array are proposed to make landfall just north of Newtonhill – with a preferred onward connection to the National Grid at the proposed Hurlie substation in Fetteresso Forest.

On Thursday May 28, Cerulian, the developers behind the Aspen project, will host a consultation session on the onshore infrastructure required: the landfall site, underground cables between Newtonhill and Fetteresso Forest, a substation at Fetteresso Forest and associated works. The event will take place in the Station Hotel from noon until 7pm.
