STONEHAVEN’S Fireballs Ceremony has made it through to the finals of the Aberdeen City and Shire Thistle Awards.
The world famous spectacle of fire is now one of the final three contenders for the Awards’ Outstanding Cultural Event or Festival category. This means fireball representatives can look forward to a nail-biting, glitzy award evening at Aberdeen’s The Chester Hotel on Friday September 18.
The Thistle Awards recognise and celebrate the very finest of tourism hospitality and events across the North East of Scotland. They aim to champion businesses and individuals who innovate and raise the standard of visitor experience – and recognise events like the Fireballs adding to the calendar of highlights across the region.
Winners of the City and Shire Awards will go forward to compete with Scotland’s finest in the national awards.
There is clear delight in the Fireballs committee at their success so far – and gratitude to a video that is proving an on-line hit.
Martin Sim told The Bellman: ”The fact that we have got into the finalists category is great. The possibility of winning that stage would be amazing.
”Credit has to be given to Ian Wood and his team at Creative Core who created the new film about the Fireball Ceremony which has been an amazing success in the social media, with thousands of people looking at it – over 78,000 views so far.”
He added: ”Also, the possibility of an award is a credit to all the people who help us to run the incredibly successful event each year. All of us know how much it means to everyone who is involved in it, to get an ‘official seal of recognition’ justifies our enthusiasm.”
