All community council meetings are open to the public – and last night’s meeting at the Invercarron Resource centre saw half a dozen members of the public listening to and joining in with the discussions.

Now, SDCC have a new website to help keep Stonehaven residents informed.

Report on town’s defibrillators

By bellmannews / January 9, 2019
yellow defibrillator box

There are now seven public access defibrillators in and around Stonehaven – heard members of Stonehaven and District Community Council at last night’s meeting in the Invercarron Resource Centre.

The push for more of these life-saving pieces of equipment was helped by this year’s Nippy Dip, which saw almost 300 participate and raise £1344 for both RNLI and Stonehaven Community Defibrillator Scheme.

A further defibrillator, at the fire station, was gained via funding from the Meikle Carewe windfarm given to the Stonehaven Town’s Partnership.

And since the David Street Coop has now supplied its own unit, a defibrillator can now be placed at Redcloak.

The community council intends to run training events for both members of the public and local businesses. They are also going to order signs so that the locations of the devices are more visible.

Meantime, with recent episodes of vandalism in mind, methods of security such as more visible locations and internal cameras are being investigated.

‘Bit of an insult’

Community councillor unhappy with railway station consultation

At last night’s meeting of Stonehaven Community Council, Ian Hunter told members he had been contacted by a firm of consultants who were looking into improvements at the railway station – and SDCC had been offered a quick phone call to make their comments.

Mr Hunter said this was, ‘a bit of an insult’. He said he had instead requested full information on the proposed improvements, and a meeting with the consultants.

Councillor Sarah Dickinson asked for someone from the disabled access panel to be included in the discussions.

Latest sculpture at boardwalk

By bellmannews / December 23, 2018

The identity of the artist behind Stonehaven’s series of stainless steel sculptures is a closely guarded secret – but the mystery man of metal’s work is admired and photographed by all.

The latest vessel to catch the eye is a yawl, manned by lobster and crab.

Dunnottar Castle, at Dawn

Castle suspended in the ocean, with dawn behind.

This is image was taken at the very start of winter 2018. Golden hours photography relies on shooting before and after dawn and the same at sunset. I remember waking before dawn four or five am and sensing the time was right to make an attempt on the castle. I contacted Andy Hall my mentor to see if he was awake and feeling inspired to support me in discovering the art of shooting the iconic, Dunnottar Castle, which of course he was and raring to go, being the fantastic mentor and advocate of the Mearns that he is.

The result is this moody shot of the castle, resting nestled in the north sea morning, preying on the day to arrive and to bask in it’s very own splendour.

Finally, the fast link is to open
