The Co-op’s David Street, store have teamed up with the Stonehaven After School Club to help the club buy 40 Hi Viz vests for the children who attend the club in the morning and after school.

The funding support was made through the Co-op’s Community Donation Fund with an award of £250. The purchase of the vest will enable the local After School Club, based at Stonehaven Community Centre, to extend their outdoor activities during the winter and add a layer of safety to the walking groups taking the children to and from school.

The Stonehaven After School Club (SASC) is a non-profit making, community based after school club. They provide both pre and after school care in a happy and safe environment, where children can access learning experiences suited to their individual and group needs and parents have confidence in the support provided. From small beginnings in 1990 they have grown into a vital service for the Stonehaven  community with many children from all three local primary schools attending. https://www.thesasc.co.uk/.

Ceryl Armstrong-Williams, the club’s business and administration manager thanked the Co-op at David Street for making this donation possible and also thanked Stoneyview embroidery in the town for giving the jackets a unique look. She acknowledged the support of many businesses at this challenging time and that the club and children were keen to be part of the community coming together to help each other through it.

Stewart Aitken, member pioneer for the Co-op in Stonehaven said: “It is great we can continue to support a variety of organisations in the town with our various schemes and opportunities available through our four local stores and funeral parlour.

”Being able to support additional activities for the club through the purchase of the vests and to enhance the safety of the children outdoors is a perfect project for us to be involved in. Many of the families that use the after school service will be our customers and it is important that they see the Coop values in action.

”We look forward to working with SACS and other organisations in the future, through this and other Coop resources and initiatives.”
