On the edge of the churchyard of St James Church in Arbuthnott Street is a tree that is decorated for Christmas from 1st December until 5th January (also known as Twelfth night) with simple baubles. On each bauble are names of loved family and friends that have died. The tree has a few branches that hang over the pavement of Arbuthnott Street.
The congregation of St James’ invites everyone in Stonehaven and from anywhere to place a bauble on the tree with the name or names of their loved one/s that they wish to remember. They can either place one of their own baubles on the tree or baubles can be found at the back of the church along with marker pens during daylight hours or at our Christmas Coffee morning on Saturday 3rd December from 10am until 11.30am. If you would like your bauble as a keepsake please can I ask that it is collected before the 5th January 2023.
Due to the flood engineering works the path from the corner of Dunnottar Avenue is closed. In January we wrote on ‘Stonehaven chat’ to invite people to retrieve their baubles if they wished and received very positive feedback about the tree of life.
