Stonehaven Golf Club Report w/e Sunday 5th February 2023

Tree-felling work is due to begin this week in the Den of Logie woodland which forms part of Stonehaven Golf Club’s land. This will affect not only those playing golf on the adjacent course but also anyone who might wish to use the track through the woods – although in fact this has been blocked by fallen trees since the winter storms and is not safely passable. With their own coastal path plans, Aberdeenshire Council have also been keen to see the track made safe and re-opened.

The tree work is under license and will predominantly be removal of the spruce trees. The tree- felling contractors have indicated that work will start on Wednesday 8th February – and will continue until the work is complete, hopefully before the end of March.

During the period of work, NO ACCESS will be allowed into the forest area itself and walkers and visitors are requested to stay clear of the danger areas until the work is fully complete and the area is re-opened.

Please note that the absence of any tree-cutting noises at any time does NOT mean that the site is safe – NO ONE should enter these areas until further notice of the work being completed has been issued.

Signage and fencing will be put up in all relevant areas to warn all golfers and members of the public of the dangers in these areas.

For those wanting to visit Skatie Shore, the best route for the time being is to walk along the track adjacent to the golf course on the east of the railway line, then down the hill under the railway viaduct. Care is required on some slippy areas below the viaduct itself. Walkers and visitors are also reminded of the danger at all times from golfers playing the course itself.
