Megray Roadside Service Area Proposed

By Jane Cruickshank / March 10, 2023

A ROADSIDE service area at the A90 AWPR interchange, a further proposed development for Stonehaven, is on the agenda for Stonehaven and District Community Council when it meets on Tuesday March 14.

This latest set of plans, this time from Euro Garages Limited, are for a service area comprising a petrol filling station, electric vehicle charging bays, a hydrogen refuelling area, ancillary retail unit and a drive-through facility together with parking for both cars and HGVs.

Unrelated developments

It is barely a month since Ashfield Land (Glasgow) Ltd lodged a proposal for application notice for a ‘Stonehaven Gateway’ at New Mains of Ury – where they hope to host more than 30 EV charging points, along with two custom-built retail units: one for a high-quality food retailer and the other targeting a high quality discount retailer.

The unrelated, proposed roadside services area appears to focus on the needs of the traveller.

Mr Daniel Arrandale, Euro Garages development manager told The Bellman: ”Our aim on such a strategic site is to ensure the existing road users, EVC, Hydrogen (mainly HGV) and existing traditional fuels have a sufficient stop-off point with excellent complementary facilities.

”The AWPR has no such roadside facility with limited and generally poor facilities whether it be A90 north/south or A96 north.”

Mr Arrandale added a planning application had been made to Aberdeenshire Council – but it is not yet registered and available on the planning portal.

Stonehaven and District Community Council meets at the former Court House on Tuesday March 14 at 7pm.
