“Small steps” to restoration of Post Office services in Stonehaven have been welcomed by the local MP.

Andrew Bowie asked local businesses to consider taking on PO counter duties, following the physical closure of all M&Co stores in the spring.

That service counter was itself the replacement for the Post Office in Allardice Street which shut in April 2020.

Post Office bosses have told Mr Bowie, West Aberdeenshire and Kincardine MP, that an “outreach” service has opened at the DE Shoes branch in Evan Street.

Consultation online

And a public consultation has been launched this week into the store’s accessibility and preferred hours of operation.

Conservative Mr Bowie said:”This is welcome news for the people and businesses of Stonehaven. Allardice Street is central and close to the beachfront, meaning that other shops and premises will benefit from keeping the footfall locally.

“Post Office services are critical to the High Street and I’m glad this outreach will be based in an established local business.

“I ask all residents to talk about what they want from the service by July 5, via the consultation.”
