AT their meeting this week, the Kincardine and Mearns Area Committee instructed awards to various local projects, including bowling green repair work at Stonehaven Recreation Grounds and scoping works to enable improvements at the Beachfront.
Final awards from Area Committee Budget
Each year the committee is allocated an amount to distribute to local groups and projects. So far, the 2024 – 2025 budget of £71,200 has supported 16 applications. With an amount reserved to support communities preparing Local Place Plans, a balance of £4739.44 remained.
Councillors quickly agreed the award of £3,838.94 to Stonehaven Bowling Club where the green requires work to bring it up to competition standards. The total project cost is £8,500, so the balance £4,661.06 will be met from the Bowling Clubs funds. The club, which has 65 members hope the improvements will help with the recruitment of new members and their hosting of local, regional and national fixtures.
The remaining funds will go to Gourdon Community Council who received £225.00 towards improving the area at their War Memorial; and Durris Kirkton Hall who can look forward to £675.50 towards the cost of a generator.
Coastal Communities Fund
Another pot of money was emptied on Tuesday morning, when the final awards from the Coastal Communities Fund for 2023/24 were agreed. Wairds Park, Johnshaven have plans for a range of children’s play apparatus – chosen by local youngsters themselves. While all the money needed is yet to be raised, £8,605.32 from the Coastal Communities Fund will assist in the purchase of the two favourite items.
When the Traffic Management Review undertaken in 2022, the permanent widening of the pavement outside the run of businesses at Stonehaven’s Beachfront was one of the preferred projects to emerge. Councillors heard the funding for this was not likely to be available and approved £5,000 to pay for survey and design work necessary to take the project to the next stage – and provide costings to allow external grant sources to be sought.
