AT their meeting this week, Stonehaven and District Community Council, SDCC, formally adoped the proposed Local Place Plan, LPP, for the town and will now pass it to the Local Authority for registration.

Last month, the proposed LPP was published along with a feedback form for any comments.

On Tuesday evening, Chair David Lawman told his colleagues he was very happy with the final document, which was put together by a team of SDCC members and other volunteers including a planning professional.

Recommending the LPP for approval, he said: ”I am very comfortable to put my name to it.”

He added: ”I’d like to thank the team involved for completing the Local Place Plan process.”

New step in process

Their approval comes almost two years after the Community Council first announced its intention to take advantage of new community powers described in The Planning (Scotland) Act 2019. This gives residents a voice in how their town is developed by preparing a Local Place Plan.

The Act states: ”A local place plan is a proposal as to the development or use of land.

”It may also identify land and buildings that the community body considers to be of particular significance to the local area.”

Once Local Place Plans have been registered, the Council is required by law to take them into consideration when updating its Local Development Plan.
