STONEHAVEN and District Community Council, SDCC, are hosting their New Year’s Day Nippy Dip at the Harbour on Wednesday, with profits going towards the provision and maintenance of defibrillators – and other good causes.
This year will see the tenth anniversary of the provision of this life-saving equipment in the town. The first units were presented to SDCC in 2015 in tribute to paramedic Peter Trudhill who lost his life after being swept into the sea.
While several machines are provided by other businesses and organisations, our Community Council Defibrillators now attends to the regular maintenance of the following 24 hour public access units:
Station Hotel, Mackie Academy, Leisure Centre, Market Square, Jim Glennie Park, Fire Station, Harbour (Outside RNLI Boat Shed). There is also one at the Recreation Grounds, which is available when open.
There is a map showing a location all the defibrillators in the town on the SDCC website.
SDCC chair David Lawman is keen to see as many people as possible taking to the water at noon on New Year’s Day.
He said: ”The funds raised will also support the Christmas tree in the Market Square, the annual SDCC community Awards and our resilience efforts.”
And there are still places available if you are willing – and brave enough – to join in. Adults are charged £15, and 12 to 15-year-olds £10 for the experience. Buy your tickets now online.
