Stonehaven Not Generating Enough Interest for SSEN

PUBLIC consultations over the proposed Kintore to Tealing 400kv overhead line connection, continue with an ongoing feedback period and a string of drop-in events across the Mearns – but not in Stonehaven.

At their meeting on Tuesday evening, members of Stonehaven and District Community Council, SDCC, heard from their chair David Lawman who had challenged SSEN about this omission and was informed Stonehaven was not included in this latest series of events because of the low number of attendees at the last consultation.

And it appears the town’s residents were not forthcoming in their opinions about the project – we contributed less than 2% of the feedback on their proposed use of pylons.

”I am at a loss as to what we should do,” said Mr Lawman.

The material to be presented at the drop-ins is available online. And through Mr Lawman, SSEN have extended an offer to visit any residents who are unable to attend any of the other events.

Meanwhile, SDCC, were left feeling left out in the cold by the power infrastructure company, who have also submitted plans to build a large substation at Hurlie in Fetteresso Forest and who did not attend a meeting of the community council when invited.

Rachel Frame said: ”I think they think Stonehaven is not connected to the forest but if you look at our coat of arms it has two pine cones.”

Her colleage Brian Menzies added: ”We are Stonehaven and District Community Council.”
