Please Spend a Penny

THE chair of Stonehaven and District Community Council, SDCC, summed up the frustration felt at Aberdeenshire Council’s approach to property maintenance this week by appealing for more expedient, cost-saving action.

With a long agenda and a meeting already running late during Tuesday evening’s meeting of SDCC, David Lawman breezed through a discussion about the lack of on-going maintenance at many Council assets.

Mr Lawman descibed the run-down state of the beach toilets where window sills are now rotting and missing sections, leaving masonry exposed to the elements and likely to fall off.

”We are in the trap of not spending a penny, then you have to spend a pound,” he said.

Plea for better signs

Despite their location at one of Stonehaven’s busiest visitor areas, the beach toilets are closed to the public as Aberdeenshire Council does not have the budget to keep them open.

Julie Lindeman asked for better signposting to guide those in need to the Leisure Centre, where toilets are accessible. She said nearby businesses were constantly being visited by members of the public wishing to use their loos.
