STONEHAVEN’S brave cold-water pool swimmers are among those benefiting from a £250,000 community fund generated by the East Coast 400kV Overhead Line Upgrade.

The fund covers projects based along the 170km route of the existing East Coast overhead line from Kintore in Aberdeenshire to north-east Clackmannanshire, which is being upgraded from 275kV to 400kV operation.

And SSEN Transmission has just announced 16 awards of up to £5,000 to health and wellbeing projects across Aberdeenshire, including several in Stonehaven:

Friends of Stonehaven Open Air Pool has received £5,000 to purchase a mobile sauna for use during cold water swimming sessions, maximising the health benefits of cold water swimming in the community.

The Haven (£5,000)
Funding for a New Mum Wellbeing Group, inspired and created for new mums in the Stonehaven community who would like to connect, support and prioritise some time for their wellbeing.

Stonehaven Sea Cadets (£769)
The Sea Cadets and Royal Marine Cadets are water born, activity led, children’s social groups. These funds are being used to provide safety head gear when participating in activities.

Mackie Rugby Club (£3,642)
Providing weekly wellbeing meditation and yoga sessions for Stonehaven-based Mackie Rugby Club’s Mammoth section in support of the physical and mental wellbeing of men aged 35 – 54

The UK government recently published new guidance for community benefit funding, which SSEN expects to result in over £100m for communities in the north of Scotland.
